History making flute player Althea Rene, was the first flautist to reach the number one spot on a Billboard chart.  Drawing music inspiration from her father (one of Motown's original Funk Brothers), Dezie McCullers, Althea has landed on the Top 20 charts five times.  In 2018, she released a book too - titled "Becoming Chocolate Barbie."  Althea just released her latest album - Flawsome, to critical reviews. Duke Robillard stands out as one of the top blues guitarists of his generation.  However, his repertoire includes swing, jazz, standards and rockabilly, too.  BB King called him, "One of the great players."  Duke's career was launched when he co-founded Roomful of Blues in 1967.  Then in 1990, he became a member of The Fabulous Thunderbirds.  Most of his career, Duke has been the leader of his own band.  He's received multi-Grammy nominations and was voted the prestigious W.C. The Commodores co-founder and lead guitarist Thomas McClary was with the band for 15 years, after forming in 1968.  The band was nominated for 8 Grammy awards, during his stint.  In 2003 , they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.  After leaving the group, Thomas signed a solo contract with Motown releasing an album with a Billboard R&B charting tune.  In recent years, he's performed with several members of his talented family and released A Revolution Not A Revival in 2008.  His latest single is titled Do It, with great undertones of his days with the Commodores.  Award-winning program director Ray White, catches up with Thomas in June of 2018 and talked with him about the startup of the Commodores, their heyday, and the high energy music he performs today.  Our dynamo hostess, Lisa Davis, features the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers' The O'Jays in our showcase segment.  They're still going strong with their latest single I Got YouCoool CAT - "Where Old School Is New School...Again"!  Check us out!!

Bassist and singer George Porter, Jr. formed The Meters in 1965, who are recognized as one of the progenitors of funk music.  The band has been nominated 4 times for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and was presented the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Today they carry on the tradition as The Funky Meters.  Since 1990, George tours on a regular basis with his own band - The Runnin' Pardners, who've released a half-dozen or so albums throughout the years.  Award winning program director Ray White, caught up with George in July of 2012 to talk about highlights of his career and his Can't Beat The Funk CD.  His latest release is the EP, It's Time To Funk.  In our showcase segment, our "Hostess With The Mostest," Lisa Davis, features the legendary Buddy Guy.  His latest album The Blues Alive and Well, garnered a Grammy award for Best Traditional Blues Album at the 61st Grammy Awards ceremony.
